What flowers will bloom on the sofa? /
2021.12.05 Sunday
Hello, this is Azusa Jin from aemono project.
Today, I'd like to report on the product development of the sofa, which took over five years.
At the end of 2016, I asked Mr. Nishizawa of Ryue Nishizawa Architects to develop an original sofa with me.
Five years have passed in the blink of an eye since I asked him to develop an original sofa with me...
We've been throwing out various ideas to each other, and have been experimenting with materials such as aluminum, laminated plywood of cypress, and thatch.
At last, we seem to have landed on a realistic and dreamy idea.
The idea was to develop an original embroidered upholstery fabric that would bring joy to the place where it is used.
He brought the lace from the backyard and stretched it over the sofa he usually uses.
What kind of scenery will it be?
In order to proceed with the embroidery project, we selected 20 pieces of upholstery fabric based on the condition that the fabric should be a densely woven fabric without any patterns.
With the cooperation of the embroidery factory, we verified that the embroidery needle could pass through the fabric.
From the seven pieces of fabric that passed the needle prick test, he chose two pieces that he said, "Out of these choices..." I chose two of them.
Left: Metaphor/maharam 100% polyester
Right: Petra/maharam 70% wool, 19% linen, 11% nylon
左:Metaphor/maharam ポリエステル100%
What kind of pattern will it be embroidered with?
The fabric shown in the office before is "Lucknow Embroidery".
This fabric is characterized by the crossed threads on the reverse side to create a three-dimensional pattern when seen through the fabric.
It is said that Muslim women stitch by hand, stitch by stitch, in the Lucknow region of India.
Do they stitch while praying or chatting?
How about embroidering the motifs on the sofa with plants that grow in the place where the building is built?
You may not find any gorgeous flowers, but only weeds.
The embroidery of Lucknow may have been done with the love of the flowers that grew there, and sewn into the fabric.
It may have become a style.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of flowers will bloom on my sofa in the future!
